Cougars fall in extra-inning heartbreaker to Surrey
The Central McLean Cougars’ 2025 baseball season came to a dramatic and emotional close Saturday afternoon at Corbett Field, as they fell 11-10 in extra innings to the Surrey Mustangs in a back-and-forth battle that stretched eight innings.
The Cougars opened the game with authority, storming out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Their bats stayed hot through the early frames, adding another run in the second and three more in the third to take an 8-7 lead after a rollercoaster first three innings.
However, the Mustangs clawed back with a game-tying run in the bottom of the third, and after four scoreless innings from both sides, the contest extended into extras.
In the bottom of the eighth, Surrey delivered the final blow, scoring three runs to walk off the Cougars 11-10 and end Central McLean’s season in heartbreaking fashion.
