Kurt Ziebarth never played in a triple overtime game when he was playing high school football. He still hasn’t, but as coach of the Central McLean Cougars, Ziebarth was along the sidelines as he guided his team through three overtimes before New Salem finally took the win after an interception followed by a quick score from a yard out.

The Holsteins won by the score of 44-38, that after the Cougars wiped out a 16-0 first quarter deficit, taking a 24-16 lead in the fourth before New Salem scored on a touchdown pass and PAT.

The Cougars and Holsteins went score for score during two OT’s before New Salem picked off a Hunter Jacobs pass in the third extra stanza, scoring on the next play from a yard out.

"They made a really good play on the ball," said Ziebarth, crediting New Salem’s defense.
