Cougars fall to Harvey-Wells County
With the postseason just around the corner, the Central McLean Cougars looked to build momentum in their final regular season contest on Thursday, October 23, but fell in four sets to Harvey-Wells County (25-20, 19-25, 19-25, 10-25).
The loss brings the regular season to a close for the Cougars, who now turn their full attention to the upcoming Division B, District 8 Volleyball Tournament beginning October 30 at Underwood High School.
Central McLean came out strong in the opening set, using steady serves and aggressive hitting to earn a 25-20 win and take early control of the match.
However, Harvey-Wells County adjusted quickly, tightening its defensive coverage and forcing the Cougars into extended rallies in the second set.
A late surge by the Hornets helped flip the momentum, resulting in a 25-19 decision to even the score at one set apiece.
The third set unfolded similarly, with Central McLean staying within striking distance before Harvey-Wells County pieced together a run midway through the frame.
Despite efforts to claw back, the Cougars once again came up short, falling 25-19. In the fourth, Harvey-Wells County fully took command, capitalizing on miscues and limiting Central McLean’s attacking opportunities on their way to a decisive 25-10 finish to close out the match.
Following the loss, Head Coach Whitney Jangula emphasized the importance of refining execution as the team prepares for postseason play.
