Cougars gain valuable experience in loss to Beulah
e of the region’s top teams provided a learning opportunity for the Central McLean Cougars softball team April 16, as they fell to Beulah 11-1 in five innings.
Facing a strong Miners squad on the road, the Cougars managed just one hit on the afternoon while working through adjustments both at the plate and in the field.
Beulah set the tone early, plating two runs in the bottom of the first inning before adding two more in the second to build a 4-1 advantage.
Central McLean’s lone run came in the top of the first, but the Cougars were unable to generate additional offense against a dominant pitching performance from the Miners.
“Beulah has a great pitcher and that’s the first time this season we saw pitches like that,” said Central McLean head coach Jodi Fylling. “My hope is that by the end of the season we will be more comfortable as hitters.”
After Beulah added a seven-run third inning to extend its lead to 11-1, the Cougars were unable to mount a comeback, with the game ending after five innings.
River Fylling accounted for Central McLean’s only hit of the contest, finishing 1-for-2 at the plate.
