Cougars girls advance through round one of Regionals

The Central McLean Cougars girls basketball team opened Region 4 Tournament play in commanding fashion Monday night, rolling past Richardton-Taylor 70-44 to advance to the semifinal round.
Entering the tournament as a No. 1 seed, Central McLean wasted little time establishing control against the No. 4-seeded Raiders.
The Cougars set the tone early with defensive intensity and efficient offensive execution, building momentum that carried throughout the contest.
Central McLean’s pressure defense disrupted Richardton-Taylor’s rhythm from the outset. The Cougars forced turnovers, limited clean perimeter looks, and controlled the glass, preventing the Raiders from generating second-chance opportunities.
Offensively, Central McLean balanced its attack, working the ball inside while also capitalizing on open shots from the outside.
By halftime, the Cougars had created separation, but they did not allow their focus to waver. The second half saw more of the same disciplined play, as Central McLean continued to push the pace in transition while remaining patient in half-court sets.
Head Coach Kipp Sparrow emphasized the team’s steady mindset as the postseason progresses.
