Cougars girls continue strong season
The Central McLean Cougars girls basketball team continued its strong stretch of play on Tuesday, Jan. 20, earning a convincing 64-25 road win over New Salem-Almont.
The victory highlighted the Cougars’ growing confidence on both ends of the floor as they pushed the pace, shared the basketball, and tightened up defensively.
Central McLean set the tone early, using quick ball movement and transition opportunities to build a steady lead.
The Cougars limited New Salem-Almont’s scoring chances with disciplined team defense while capitalizing on offensive possessions to extend the margin throughout the game.
By halftime, Central McLean had established control and continued to add to its lead in the second half.
Morgan Snyder led the Cougars with a game high 25 points, providing a consistent scoring threat and setting the pace offensively.
Sally Heger added nine points, while Brooklyn Lauer chipped in six. Emma Fischer and River Fylling each finished with seven points, Araya Ross scored five, and Lainey Haraseth added four to round out the balanced scoring effort.
Head coach Kipp Sparrow said the Cougars are beginning to settle into a clearer identity as the season progresses.
“We seem to have a better understanding of our strengths,” Sparrow said. “They need to keep playing fast and making adjustments on the go. We are also starting to rebound better.”
That improved rebounding has been a point of emphasis for Central McLean as the Cougars prepare for the postseason.
