Cougars hoping to join Sellon at state track

By Suzanne Werre, BHG News Service

The Cougars head to the South Central Regional Track Meet this Saturday at the Bismarck Bowl, the last chance for athletes to qualify for next weekend’s state track meet, which is also at the Bismarck Bowl starting at 10:30 am Friday. At this point, long-jumper Mariah Sellon is the only Cougar to have met qualifying standards this season, but this Saturday the top three finishers in each event qualify for state. Central McLean Coach Lee Weisgarber is hopeful several of his athletes will make the cut this weekend – if not by meeting the standard for qualifying, then by being one of the region’s top three finishers. Some of the athletes have been placing pretty well at the meets throughout the season, noted Weisgarber. Thrower Taylor Deseth has been consistent in discus, Dylan Ruff’s triple jump has been improving throughout the season, and Sellon has been edging closer to qualifying in the high jump. “It’s going to come down to who is going to perform that day,” said Weisgarber.
