Cougars look to take next step with experienced but young roster
The Central McLean Cougars will enter the 2026 baseball season with a unique blend of youth and experience, a combination head coach Mike Skachenko believes could translate into a competitive spring across Region 6.
Despite not having a single senior on the roster, the Cougars bring back a core group of players who have already logged significant varsity innings.
That experience, paired with an evident commitment to offseason development, has created optimism as the season approaches.
“I expect us to be very competitive in Region 6,” Skachenko said. “I expect more wins than last season.”
Leading the way for Central McLean will be junior Mason Skachenko, an All-Region selection a year ago who enters his fourth season at the varsity level.
Skachenko figures to be a key contributor both on the mound and in the infield, providing leadership and stability for a relatively young roster.
