Cougars pounce, Imperials fight back 40-6

Opening game of the gridiron season for the Central McLean Cougars pitted them against the Napoleon-Gackle-Streeter Imperials last Friday at Underwood. Head Coaches Kevin Dockter and Keith Sundquist and Assistant Coach Jason Block know they have a challenging season ahead of them after losing a strong senior line-up from last year. The Cougars are in a building year with only five seniors on the team and only two who saw a measurable amount of playing time last year. Another factor affecting the team is the addition of McClusky ball players joining the co-op this year. The addition to the team has been a plus for the Cougars, putting the roster at 28 gridders out for the team. Friday night’s game challenged the new line-up of Cougars and their coaches. The Imperials came out strong against the Cougars and put 14 points on the board before the end of the first quarter.  Despite remaining scoreless in the first quarter, the Cougars still packed a punch with a sack of the Imperial quarterback by junior Tucker Fylling and a nice stop by Nick Lee on the 50-yard line. Sophomore Jake Williams had a few good runs including a 25-yard gain on a fake run play.
