Cougars roll past Killdeer, turn attention to playoffs

The Central McLean Cougars closed their regular season with a decisive road victory Friday, Oct. 16, defeating Killdeer 48-6 before turning their attention to the opening round of the football playoffs.
The victory gave Central McLean a 7-2 overall record and a 6-2 finish in Class A Region 4. The Cougars will begin postseason play Saturday, Oct. 24, against No. 3 seed Bishop Ryan-Our Redeemer’s at Herb Parker Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Head coach Grant Singer said the win provided the finish his team wanted before beginning postseason preparation.
“It was a good way to finish off the regular season and we will be looking to take that momentum into playoffs,” Singer said.
Friday’s regular-season finale featured Central McLean’s highest scoring total of the season. The Cougars finished with a 42-point margin while limiting Killdeer to a single touchdown.
The result also marked the fifth time this fall Central McLean scored at least 30 points. The Cougars previously reached that mark in victories over Beulah, South Prairie-Max, Heart River and Southern McLean.
Against Killdeer, Central McLean paired that offensive production with a defensive effort that matched its season-opening performance against Beulah in points allowed. The Cougars defeated the Miners 40-6 to begin the year and also recorded a 30-0 shutout of South Prairie-Max in their second game.
