Cougars roll through three-game stretch
The Central McLean Cougars girls basketball team continued its strong run through Division B play last week, picking up three wins in six days to improve to 15-1 overall and 4-1 in District 8.
The Cougars combined aggressive team defense with efficient transition offense, leaning heavily on senior guard Morgan Snyder while continuing to develop depth as the postseason approaches.
Central McLean opened the week Jan. 26 with a convincing 72-43 home win over Wilton-Wing.
After a competitive opening quarter, the Cougars began to separate themselves by turning defensive stops into scoring opportunities.
Snyder led all scorers with 33 points, consistently finding open lanes to the basket and knocking down shots in transition.
River Fylling added 15 points, while Abi Gross contributed nine as Central McLean built a balanced offensive effort around its defensive intensity.
The Cougars steadily increased pressure on the defensive end, forcing Wilton-Wing into difficult possessions and limiting second chance opportunities.
That effort allowed Central McLean to control the tempo and pull away as the game wore on.
The momentum carried into Thursday, Jan. 29, when the Cougars traveled to New England and came away with a 62-41 road win.
Central McLean once again established itself early, using disciplined half-court defense and quick outlets to create advantages up the floor.
Snyder delivered another standout performance, scoring 38 points to pace the Cougars. Lainey Haraseth added nine points, providing support as Central McLean maintained consistent offensive pressure throughout the night.
The Cougars limited New England’s scoring chances by closing out on shooters and staying active in passing lanes.
That defensive focus allowed Central McLean to extend its lead in the second half and finish the road trip with confidence.
