Cougars softball stay busy at Region 4 Tournament
The Central McLean Cougars put together an impressive postseason run at the Class B Region 4 Softball Tournament in Wilton, winning four games in three days before eventually falling one victory short of a state tournament berth.
Central McLean finished the 2026 season with a 12-7 overall record after battling through six games in a demanding regional tournament bracket that showcased both the offensive firepower and resilience the Cougars displayed throughout the spring.
The tournament opened Tuesday, May 19 with a dominant first-round performance against New England.
The Cougars wasted little time taking control, scoring three runs in the first inning before erupting for eight more in the second on the way to an 18-2 victory in five innings.
Central McLean totaled 10 hits in the win while taking advantage of nine New England errors.
River Fylling led the offensive attack with a huge performance at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with five RBIs.
Brooklyn Tomlinson added two hits and a walk, while Abigail Gross recorded a hit, RBI, and walk.
Cambree Schlafmann drove in two runs, Nora Fiedler added an RBI, and Zella Anderson also drove in a run.
In the circle, Gross pitched all five innings, allowing just two earned runs while striking out two.
