Cougars take sixth at Parshall Varsity Meet
The Central McLean Cougars posted several standout performances on May 7 at the Parshall Varsity Track and Field Meet, finishing sixth in the boys standings and 13th on the girls side against a large slate of Class B competition.
The Central McLean boys totaled 50 points, tying Tioga/Ray for sixth overall. Southern McLean won the boys team title with 76 points, followed closely by Bottineau (73.5) and Powers Lake-Burke Central (72).
On the girls side, the Cougars finished with 28 points as Nedrose claimed the team title with 91.5 points. Kenmare-Bowbells and Bishop Ryan rounded out the top three.
Senior Aiden Hanson led Central McLean’s boys with a strong multi-event day, earning first place in the high jump by clearing 6 feet and adding a third-place finish in the 400 meters with a personal-best time of 51.73 seconds. Hanson also anchored the Cougars’ relays, helping the 4x400 team take first place in 3:33.26 and the 4x100 relay place second in 45.16.
The Cougars’ 4x400 relay of Kylar Hansen, Kaden Lelm, Kannon Hunt and Hanson continued a strong late-meet tradition for Central McLean, while the 4x100 squad of Hansen, Hunt, Gavin Haraseth and Hanson delivered another podium finish.
Kannon Hunt added a fifth-place finish in the 400 meters, posting a personal-best 51.96, while Haraseth paired a season-best 54.66 for ninth in the event.
