Cougars teeing off at regionals

The Cougar golfers have two chances this week to qualify as individuals for the upcoming state meet, and one shot to make it as a team. The golfers were set to travel to Rolla for Tuesday to try to make the regional qualifying cut, needing to shoot an 87 or better to qualify, and they head back to Rolla Friday to compete for individual qualifying and for a team spot at state. Looking to pace the Cougars’ girls’ team are veterans Emma Brunelle, McKenna Olson and Keelia Charging, while Kennedi Fischer and Sydnie Diffely round off the team.
The Cougars have competed in three meets in this abbreviated golf season, with Brunelle leading the way for the Cougars in all three meets.
Brunelle shot a 116 in the team’s opener at Velva on April 30, while Olson carded a 123. Medalist was Northern Lights’ Jocelyn Braunberger.
The Cougars returned to Velva on May 3, where Brunelle scored a 105 to pace the Cougars, while Olson and Charging each finished with 122. Medalists were Braunberger and Libby Dulmadge from Benson County, who both shot an 85.
This past Monday’s action saw Brunelle card a 109 at Bottineau, while Olson finished with a 116.
