Cougars wrap up strong season at Region 6 tournament
he Central McLean Cougars saw their 2026 baseball season come to an end Tuesday, May 19 at the Class B Region 6 Tournament at Corbett Field, but not before closing out one of the program’s most successful seasons in recent years.
The Cougars finished the season with a 15-9 overall record, marking one of the highest win totals Central McLean baseball has posted in a long time while also doing so with an entirely underclassmen roster.
Central McLean opened regional tournament play against the Velva/Drake-Anamoose Aggies in round one and showed early offensive life before the Aggies gradually pulled away for a 13-4 victory.
The Cougars struck first with two runs in the top of the opening inning, but Velva/Drake-Anamoose answered immediately with three runs in the bottom half of the frame to take the lead.
The Aggies continued to build momentum throughout the game, adding two more runs in the third inning, four in the fourth, three in the fifth, and another in the sixth.
Despite the loss, Central McLean continued to battle offensively and finished with eight hits in the contest.
