Defense rules in Cougar grid win

Defense was front and center Friday night at Turtle Lake as the Central McLean Cougars made a final-minute defensive stand against Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood to hold on to an 8-6 win in Class B 9-man action.
MLS had gone into the game as the number four ranked 9-man team in the state after winning its season opener the previous week.
After leading 8-6 through nearly all of the second half following a Kayden Hornberger 3-yard run midway through the first stanza, the Cougars made what would be a game-clinching defensive stand forcing four incomplete passes deep in their own territory, taking control of the ball on their own 27-yard-line with just 26 seconds remaining in the game.
“It was just a great high school football game,” commented CM co-coach Kevin Dockter. “We played really well on defense.”
