First first for Underwood girls basketball team

The Underwood Comets nabbed their first-ever District 10 championship title last Tuesday, pummeling top-ranked Turtle Lake-Mercer-McClusky 52-36 on the Trojans’ home court to take the title. At Tuesday’s pep rally before the game, some of the players were bold enough to predict they would win.  Guess their psychic powers were working. “I am so excited for the girls and the way they played,” commented Underwood Head Coach Toni Cottingham, who was also feeling pretty confident going into the title game. “It’s hard to believe, but this is the first ever district championship for the Underwood girls’ basketball team. “The girls came out focused and ready to play,” she continued. Underwood’s stingy in-your-face defense stymied the Trojans, as TLMM was able to count only 14 points in the first half after a paltry five-point second stanza. Underwood took a 25-14 lead going into the second half and never let up, never letting the Trojans threaten to take the game.
