Gearing up for the next season of rodeo

By Michael Johnson, Editor

Riding horse just comes natural for Miranda Pochant, 17, of Coleharbor. But not all horses are as naturally fit to handle the many skills involved in the life of the rodeo. Pochant has been a regular in the rodeo arena for many years and recently finished out another season. This year had a few mishaps that kept Pochant from reaching the level she had hoped. But that’s the life of a rodeo queen. Pochant said the year started out good in Fargo. She is one of the better pole benders in the state and proved herself early-on. Her eighth-grade year she made it to the Junior High Finals Rodeo in three out of four of her events. But this year took a turn when her horse was injured. While attempting to turn around in a tight spot the horse pulled a back muscle. Luckily, a chiropractor was on-site and was able to help the animal immediately. "I had to use another horse and it didn’t work so well," Pochant said.
