Grabbing the football by the Horn-bergers

There’s a good likelihood the Central McLean Cougars will climb in the polls this week. After already having received votes this past week, the Central McLean team continued their assault on Region 3 9-man teams, thumping Surrey by the score of 24-12, upping the Cougars’ record to 3-0 on the season.
Making the polls means nothing to CM Co-coach Grant Singer – but the win does.
“I could care less about the polls,” said Singer. “That’s just based off scores, so it’s tough because you don’t want the kids to get all wrapped up in that all the time. It’s about going out and playing . . . go out and play every game.”
The Cougars did go out and play Friday night in Surrey, staying on the ground for the majority of the game as they rushed for 273 yards, including two rushing touchdowns from senior running back Kayden Hornberger and a keeper jaunt to the end zone by senior quarterback Ty Snyder.
The Cougars went to the air only twice, with Snyder completing a 16-yarder to senior receiver Mason Hornberger, but most of the damage was done on the ground.
