By Suzanne Werre, BHG News Service

The Comets upped their record to 2-0 Thursday night, literally bumping off Kidder County 3-1 in Class B volleyball action. The Comets won the first games 25-15 and 25-15, lost game three by the score of 25-14, then came back to win 25-23. Junior hitter Anne Hefta used a combination of hard hits, sweeps and tips to pace the Comets’ offense with 12 kills. Comet coach Mary Hefta credited Anne Hefta’s ability to see the floor, to know where the opponent is, in knowing when to tip and when to go for the harder hit. Anne Hefta was also good for four blocks, three aces and three digs. “She had the game of her life,” commented coach Hefta. “I have never seen her play like that.” Adding to the Comets’ offensive attack were senior Sammi Cottingham with six kills and junior Abby Landenberger with four, while Cottingham got the offensive going with 13 sets, followed by Taylor Dammann’s five assists. “Both Sam and Taylor are running the court well, and we expect them to only get better,” noted Hefta.
