Lady Cougars falter against Coyotes

The Central McLean Cougar volleyball team fought hard Thursday at Underwood High School but came up short in a 3-1 loss against an aggressive Grant County Coyotes team.

“The girls came out and battled through the whole game,” said Cougar’s head coach Whitney Jangula. “We saw some lapses in our mental toughness and in the end that is what caused us to fall short. We need to reset and find a way to have the next play mentality to overcome those mental lapses. Grant County is a very scrappy team and they showed us areas we need to work on and stay disciplined in.”

Both teams took halfway through the first set to really show any sense of intensity. Central McLean stayed within three points until the Coyotes hit their stride midway through the set by producing an 8-1 run giving themselves a 21-11 advantage. The Cougars regrouped and exchanged points at the end, but it wasn’t enough. Grant County took the 25-16 win to go up 1-0
