The Center-Stanton Wildcats came into last Tuesday’s regional match-up against the Underwood Comets, then watched as that number one spot started fading away as the home-standing Comets defeated the Wildcats in the first two sets, 25-15 and 25-18.
The ‘Cats started turning things around early in the third set, jumping to a 12-3 lead before rolling to a 25-12 win. The Lady Wildcats eked out a 26-24 win in the fourth set, then kept the momentum, taking a 9-0 lead before winning the match with a 15-4 win in the final set.
“Center Stanton is a very good team, they are ranked #1 in our region. We knew they would be a tough team,” said Underwood Coach Clarissa Kruger.
“The girls came out fighting the first and second set, but once Center got their offense going, it was hard for us to dig up their hits,” added Kruger.
Center’s Abby Hintz was the leader at the net, counting 18 kills for the Lady wildcats while Mackenzie Snyder led the Comets with seven kills.
