Miners stop Comets in region qualifier

By Mary Hefta, BHG News Service

The Underwood Comet boys provided for an entertaining final game of the season. While they could not seal the deal against Wilton-Wing, they had a good fight in the loss. Junior Jeremy Wirtz drained a three-pointer at the beginning of the Comets’ district game against the Wilton-Wing Miners last Saturday afternoon.  Senior Dillon Aldinger added a two-point put-back to tie the game at 5 with six minutes left in the first quarter. Wirtz added a free throw while senior Matt Landenberger hit two free throws from the charity stripe.  All Comet players contributed to a good first quarter for the Comets while Wilton-Wing sophomore Cory Keating scored all nine points for the Miners. Seniors Nick Lee and Landenberger were each able to add points for the Comets in the second period of play.  Lee dropped a three-pointer for the left side and added a short shot for two.  Landenberger added seven points in the second quarter and the game was tied at 20 at the halftime break.
