Ken Schmidt, Glasgow, Mont., and Mark Jones of Billings, are the winners of the 2014 N.D. Governor’s Walleye Cup Tournament.

The pair moved up from second place after day one to take the top spot this past Saturday, earning the victory.

The Montanans edged local anglers Eric Stebbins and Josh Pochant, both of Coleharbor, by 1.37 lbs. Stebbins and Pochant were in first with 23.38 lbs., following Friday’s action.

After Friday’s fishing, Schmidt and Jones were tucked comfortably in second place, 3.98 lbs. behind Stebbins and Pochant.

Third place went to the team of Stuart Mead, Hazen, and Dale Westemeier, Beulah. The two weighed in 30.60 lbs. of walleye. Mead and Westemeier came into Saturday in 13th place, with just 13.87 lbs. of fish. Their weight in walleye of 16.73 lbs. on Saturday jumped them 10 positions only 1.91 lbs. from the top spot.

This is Schmidt’s fourth time fishing the Governor’s Cup. His highest finish was third in 2010. For Jones, it was his first time competing in the Governor’s Cup.
