The Central McLean Cougars saw their hopes of advancing to postseason play fade when the visiting Southern McLean Roughriders scored twice in the fourth quarter to wipe out the Cougars’ 7-0 lead and take the win by the score of 12-7.

The teams battled back and forth through the first half, neither team able to advance beyond the red zone into the end zone.

When the second half started, though, the Cougars came out more aggressively, thwarting the Roughriders’ opening drive by forcing them to go three and out.

"The third quarter, we came out really hot defensively and shut them down," said Cougar coach Kurt Ziebarth. "

The Cougars ramped up their offense when they got the ball, culminating in a two-yard Wyatt Wilson touchdown run. Wilson finished the game with 68 yards on 18 carries.
