Skyhawks too much for Comets

By Mary Hefta, BHG News Service

Head coach Toni Cottingham and her Comets headed back to the Region 5 girls basketball tournament after a one year hiatus. The team was excited and ready to continue play in the post season. The Comets, the third seed from District 10 played the second seed from a strong District 9, the Shiloh Christian Skyhawks. “Our team goal was to get back to the Region tournament.” Stated Cottingham, “Since we are such a young team, with only one senior, it was important to us that we made it to the Region tournament, play well and get that experience.”  She continued, “I was excited going into this game knowing that we matched up well with Shiloh.” Underwood put the first point on the board with sophomore Abby Landenberger’s free throw.  The Skyhawks then led 5-1 but Landenberger threw in a sweet pass to fellow sophomore Emma Lee to gain on Shiloh, 5-3.  Freshman Erin Dammann lead an out-of-bounds play with a pass to Lee for two more and the Comets only trailed by three. The Comets would score just one more point in the first quarter while the Skyhawks managed to nail several shots to finish the quarter 19-9.
