Wilton-Wing sweeps district double-header against Underwood

By Adam Thomas, BHG News Service

‘Every game counts’ as they say, and that goes double for district games which have an effect on the looming district tournaments. So when district double-headers come up in the schedule, you’ll find fans turning out and filling the stands for long nights of basketball action looking for a preview of what’s to come in the post-season. On Thursday night, the Underwood Comets basketball teams lost in both the boys and girls games. The girls were first up and it looked like Underwood had the upper hand initially. With the tallest girls’ player in the district – Alix Auck -- on their side, the Comets combined their inside play with steals on defense to more than double up the Miners in the first quarter, 16-7.  The Wilton-Wing ladies didn’t start off shooting the ball all that well. They managed to get a few second chances off offensive rebounds, but missed the put-backs. If it hadn’t been for all the times the Miners got to the free throw line in the first half, they would have been in considerably more trouble than trailing by seven points at half-time, but they took advantage at the line to stay within closing distance.
