Aggies 2026 season starts in Valley City

The Velva-Garrison-Drake/Anamoose Aggies are back on the practice field and preparing for another football season, with a younger roster looking to build on the program’s experience and continue competing deep into the fall.
VGDA opened preseason practice last week ahead of its season opener Friday, Aug. 21, when the Aggies travel to Valley City. Head Coach Matt Weidler said the opening stretch of practice provided a positive start, with his players bringing the kind of effort the coaching staff wanted to see.
“It was a good first week of practice,” Weidler said. “The kids' energy and focus has been great. As a staff we have seen a lot of good things on both sides of the ball, as well as things we need to get better at.”
Those early practices are especially important for an Aggies team that will feature a number of new faces in larger varsity roles this season.
While VGDA may not have the same level of varsity experience throughout the lineup as in previous seasons, many of the players expected to step into those positions are far from unfamiliar with the program.
