Aggies advance past Southern McLean in Playoff showdown
Saturday, October 25, the Velva-Drake-Anamoose-Garrison Aggies and the Southern McLean Roughriders met in the opening round of the Class B playoffs in what proved to be a hard-fought battle between two talented squads.
The Aggies ultimately came out on top with a 49-6 victory, but both teams showed grit, sportsmanship, and pride in a game that marked the culmination of months of work and dedication.
From the opening kickoff, the Aggies established their rhythm, using a balanced attack of physicality and speed to control the tempo.
Velva’s offensive line opened running lanes early, setting up a pair of quick scoring drives in the first quarter that gave them early momentum and a 12-0 lead.
Southern McLean’s offense, led by a young but developing core, worked to establish its ground game against one of the top defenses in the state.
As the second quarter progressed, Velva continued to play within its groove.
Quarterback efficiency and strong execution in the trenches helped the Aggies extend their lead before halftime.
