Aggies overpower Valley City in season opener
The Velva-Drake/Anamoose-Garrison Aggies established their physical style from the opening week of the football season, rolling to a 44-6 road victory over Valley City on Friday, Aug. 21.
VDAG controlled the matchup on both sides of the line of scrimmage, pairing an efficient offensive performance with a defense that limited Valley City to just six points. Head coach Matt Weidler credited the Aggies’ success to physical play, sound tackling and an offense that avoided mistakes.
“Defensively, I thought we were physical at the point of attack and we tackled well,” Weidler said. “Offensively, we didn’t have any procedural penalties and we stayed ahead of the chains. I thought our backs ran hard and our guys up front won the line of scrimmage.”
Staying ahead of the chains allowed the Aggies to avoid many difficult down-and-distance situations. VDAG kept its offense on schedule, allowing its running backs and offensive line to set the tone throughout the contest.
