In the closest game so far this season, the Velva/Garrison Aggies took the game against the Nedrose Cardinals, but by eight points, 20-12.
The Aggies, which have been undefeated thus far, advanced during the second quarter, thanks to two touchdowns by Payton Bodine, both possible from receptions by Ben Schepp. On Bodine’s second, a rush from Schepp brought on extra points.
In the third quarter, it was Schepp’s turn to score via a rush.
The Aggies didn’t score in the fourth quarter. It was the Cardinal’s time to shine, but the light wasn’t as bright as they hoped; the team scored 12 points — courtesy of Cameron Bailey and Keaton Cole — but it wasn’t enough to best the Aggies’ 20 points.
Iglehart and Schepp rushed 75 yards each, in 13 and 15 attempts, respectively, while Hank Bodine rushed 11 yards in five attempts.
Payton Bodine received 61 yards in five receptions. Iglehart received 39 yards in three receptions and Kade Beeter, 38 yards in three receptions.
With the Rugby and Nedrose teams, there was better competition, said Aggies head coach Larry Sandy.
“We’ve been able to come out with the wins and I think we’re starting to play a better brand of ball,” Sandy said. “Everybody is getting comfortable with the system, but we are far from perfect.”
Sandy noted that in the Sept. 24 game, the Aggies at times acted in ways that “shot ourselves in the foot,” be it a penalty “or things we should be able to control.”
