Aggies shut out Harvey/Wells County
The Velva-Drake/Anamoose-Garrison Aggies relied on their defense to secure a narrow victory in Week Two of the high school football season.
Velva-Drake/Anamoose-Garrison defeated Harvey/Wells County 6-0 on Friday, Aug. 28, winning a low-scoring contest in which every point carried added importance.
The Aggies’ defense delivered its first shutout of the season, keeping Harvey/Wells County off the scoreboard throughout the game. With the offense producing six points, the defense made the slim advantage stand until the final whistle.
The victory moved Velva-Drake/Anamoose-Garrison to 2-0. While it did not feature the offensive production of the Aggies’ 44-6 season-opening victory over Valley City, the Week Two win demonstrated that the team can succeed in different types of games.
Through two games, the Aggies have outscored their opponents 50-6. They have allowed only one touchdown while beginning the season with consecutive victories. The defensive effort against Harvey/Wells County continued an impressive early stretch for a group that also limited Valley City to six points in Week One.
Velva-Drake/Anamoose-Garrison has now shown the ability to win both a high-scoring game and a defensive battle. The Aggies scored early and often during their 38-point victory at Valley City, but Week Two required patience and the ability to perform under pressure until the end.
