Bombers tumble Troopers

Bombers tumble Troopers

The Garrison Troopers boys’ basketball team opened the season against what Coach Jason Mattheis said was arguably one of the best teams in the state, the Berthold Bombers.
And by the looks of the score, he was right. The Bombers blew out the Troop 75-36. The game was in Garrison.
Berthold dominated from the get-go, scoring 28 points off turnovers. From three-point land, Berthold scored an additional 33, going 11-25 from outside the arc.
Garrison shot a respectable 44 percent the first half, but that figure dwindled to a paltry 19 percent (6-31) in the second half. Leading the Troopers was Dan Gackle with 11. Ironically, Brandin Langan was the only Berthold player in double figures with 25.
Mattheis said it was an extremely difficult way for the team to start the season. But he chose to look at a glass half-full
“We were able to take a lot of positives from the game,” he said. “We handled their defensive pressure fairly well and we were able to get a lot of post touches.”
