Cossacks road to Regions

Max players battled hard to get to tourney
By TYSON SMEDSTAD
The season was questionable looking at the statistics. Max had only won three out of fifteen games during the regular. So how did this team of 11 make it to Regions?
They wanted it
Even though Garrison was seeded higher in District 10, and had beaten Max in the regular season, Max pulled off an upset. Max played like they wanted it more, and advanced on to Region 5 play.
The first quarter was neck and neck with Garrison at 12 and Max with 13 points. Then it went downhill for Garrison from there. Max dropped in another 14 points before the half, which brought the score to Cossacks 27, Troopers 16.
Nathan Talbott of Max combined free throws and field goals to score 12 points in the fourth quarter alone.
“I feel we ended the season with some positive things,” said Head Coach Jade Larson. “I think the younger guys stepped up during the post season and thought everyone improved, especially with defense and rebounding.”
Josh Thompson and Nathan Talbott were selected for both All-Tournament team.
Josh Thompson were selected for the All-District team.
“We are going to miss the inside presence and leadership that Josh Thompson gave us this year,” said Larson.
Final score was Max 49, Garrison 38.
