Cossacks take two

By STU MERRY

The neighborhood was rocking this past Friday in Max. The Donald L. Roedocker Gym in Max was packed as northern McLean County neighbors gathered for the annual girls and boys basketball battle between the Max Cossacks and the Garrison Troopers. In the end it was the Cossacks who came out the winners on both ends of the varsity tilts.

Following the JV contests, the ladies took center stage first. The game came down to the final minutes with Max prevailing by two, 48-46.

Cheyenne Jacobson was on fire, scoring 24 including 12 points from beyond the arc. She was perfect from the line in the deciding final frame, going 6-6. Kaylee Capp was the next closest scorer with 8.

For the Troopers, Ellie Gehring and Taylor Kamp each scored 18. This was only the second loss of the season for the Lady Troopers.

Max prevailed in the boys contest, too, winning 70-62. Colton Schroeder had the hot hand, scoring 27, while Reid Groninger added 21. For Garrison, Dakota Rand tallied 13, while Levi Hummel and Clayton Leidholm each scored a dozen.
