Drop tough loss to Wilton
The Garrison Troopers boys basketball team put together a demanding three game stretch last week, facing quality opponents and showing continued growth despite a mixed set of results.
The Troopers went 2-1 over the span, falling narrowly to Wilton-Wing before bouncing back with convincing wins over Mandaree and Belfield.
Garrison opened the week at home on Tuesday, Jan. 20, hosting district rival Wilton-Wing in a tightly contested matchup.
The Troopers held a 20-16 edge after the first quarter and remained within striking distance throughout the night. Wilton-Wing led 34-36 at halftime and carried a slim 52-50 advantage into the fourth quarter before pulling away late for a 72-62 victory.
Head coach Justin Folk said the game came down to a brief lapse that proved costly.
“We played extremely well against Wilton except for about 45 seconds where we could not get a rebound and they got a kick out three and four bad turnovers,” Folk said. “If we fix those, it may not be a loss.”
