Cool and calm conditions prevailed for the final cross country race Monday, Oct. 19. Seven runners from Bob Callies Elementary School made the trek for the last race of the year. Races were combined so that runners finished before dark.
One runner completed the preschool/kindergarten 1,000-meter run. Alison Betz finished 14th in 6:48.
Three runners completed the 1st-3rd grade 1,200-meter run. Runner’s times were: Tyler Zook 16th in 6:25; Jacob Hodges 20th in 7:12; and Hunter Baer 29th in 7:35.
Three runners completed the 4th-6th grade 1,600-meter run. Troy Betz was 16th in 8:56; Kaitlyn Holmes was 24th in 10:02 and Lexi Homes was 30th in 12:18.
The races at Oak Park are sponsored by the Minot Recreation Commission. Organizers are from the Minot High School Girls Cross Country Team. Races are offered for all children from preschool through 6th grade at no cost.
Five runners braved blizzard and white out conditions in order to race in White Shield. The Friday, Oct. 9th race was an out and back 800-meter race.
No times were kept, but Garrison racers finished well. Katherine White finished first out of the second grade girls. MacKenzie Holt started the race, but due to extreme conditions did not finish.
