Garrison closes out regular-season with win
Garrison put a damper on Linton/Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock’s home finale and Parents/Senior Night activities, knocking off the Lady Lions, 46-31, Feb. 5, on Carr Court at Linton High School.
The Troopers, who play in District 8 and Region 4 of the Class B Division, ended their regular-season slate with a 15-4 record, while LHMB fell to 10-8 on the season.
LHMB, playing without the services of Bobbie Janczewski (concussion) and Megan McCrory (ankle injury), would have all sorts of trouble trying to navigate relentless full-court pressure applied by the Troopers, which forced eight Lady Lion turnovers in the opening period. Garrison wasn’t finding much of an offensive attack on its end, but the Troopers managed to slowly build a nice lead, and Cara Schlehr’s field goal gave Garrison an 8-0 lead with 4:50 left in the period.
LHMB couldn’t get on the board until Avery Vander Vorst knocked down a pair of free throws at the 4:19 mark, but Garrison went scoreless for over three and a half minutes before McCall Chase put in a field goal at the end of a fast break with just over a minute left in the period. Schlehr followed with a quick lay-up off a steal to extend Garrison’s lead to double digits (12-2), and the Troopers held that advantage until Makiah Ryckman finally notched LHMB’s first field goal with a three-pointer in the closing seconds to cut the lead to 12-5.
