The man who is now officially known as the “Voice of Class B Basketball” grew up in Garrison and has been behind the microphone for half a century. During the Boys’ Class B tournament in Minot last weekend, Garrison native Larry Louser was presented a plaque for his past 50 years of announcing North Dakota high school sporting events.
“Growing up in Garrison, Louser’s first experience with organized sports was in middle school where he excelled in football, basketball and track,” an announcer told the crowd. “In 1969, Louser picked up the microphone for the first time, and for 50 consecutive years, he has continued to share his enthusiasm with fans, coaches and athletes from around the state.”
Louser was recognized in the past. He received special recognition from the North Dakota Coaches Association in 2004. He was inducted into the Minot High School Hall of Fame in 2013 as a contributor for his years of service, and was given a lifetime pass to all Western Dakota athletics.
