The Garrison girls would go farther than any Trooper volleyball before them this season, bringing home a seventh place finish at state Saturday.
After making history by winning the Region 5 championship title and earning Garrison its first ever spot at Class B state volleyball, the Troopers would have one more record to set for the school: Breaking the top seven.
The Troopers would find their seventh-place victory against District 12’s champion, the Des Lacs-Burlington Lakers, who they played Saturday in Bismarck.
Garrison and Des Lacs-Burlington would keep within a few points of each other in the first set, with the Lakers pulling a narrow lead mid-way through. The Troopers weren’t ready to let the set go and the teams went back and forth fighting for the win until Garrison managed a 31-29 victory.
The second set would feature more back and forth battle between the teams, though the Lakers would snag some vital aces in order to take a lead. The Troopers struggled to avoid a few well-placed kills and eventually lost the set 25-17.
