The teams and fans came to the gym last Thursday expecting to see two games with TLMM. But the visitors had only six players, barely enough for one team. So the 8th graders matched up with a TLMM unit that had several 7th graders and it was the visitors that got off to a good start.
The home team on the other hand were a bit sluggish, scoreless for over three minutes to start the game. They managed to get going in the last half of the quarter but TLMM continued to play well, taking an 11-7 lead after one quarter.
The Troopers came alive in the second quarter, taking their first lead at the 4:00 mark after an Eddie Whitebear steal that he took to the house and was fouled on the layup. He completed the old style three point play by making the free throw. The defense then picked it up a notch and the offense seemed to feed off the defensive intensity, taking a 9 point lead into the locker room.
Both teams were quiet in the 3rd period but the Troopers found new life in the 4th quarter, eventually blowing the game open. The Troopers may have learned something from this game that being whoever your opponent is, you better be ready to play the entire game, every game if you expect to come out with a win.
