Lady Troopers hosts home golf tournament amid strong winds
The Garrison varsity girls golf team had the opportunity to host its lone home tournament of the season on Monday, battling challenging conditions as high winds swept across the course throughout the day.
A High Wind Advisory remained in effect during the tournament, with gusts reaching up to 40 mph. The difficult conditions added strokes to scores across the field and tested golfers from every team.
Garrison coach Mark Harris fielded a young lineup that included one senior and three freshmen.
Freshman Piper Ziemann led the way for the Troopers, finishing fourth overall with a score of 97, 25 strokes over par. Ziemann finished behind Des Lacs-Burlington teammates and sisters Laila Christianson, who claimed first place with a 76 (+4) and Lauryn Christianson, who was second with an 84 (+12), and DLB’s Sharon Osteroos, who took third with a 93 (+21).
“Piper struggled on the front nine but came back a little on the back nine,” Harris said.
Another freshman, McCall Chase, recorded a strong performance for Garrison, placing ninth overall with a score of 111 (+39).
