Lady T’s open with win

By STU MERRY
The Garrison Lady Troopers’ home and season opener was like an Oreo cookie – strong and tough at top and the bottom, but sandwiched in the middle, their game was soft.
In the end, a strong finish was more than enough to come away with a 56-45 victory over Surrey Tuesday night on the Roy Schei Gym floor.
The Troop opened strong, bolting to a 13-5 lead. But at the first quarter buzzer, Surrey held court, leading 15-13.
The Mustangs continued to gallop into the second quarter, racking up more points to the tune of a 23-15 cushion before the Troopers came alive, answering to pull close at 25-21, following a Maddie Rud lay-up.
Surrey countered and led at intermission, 30-23.
