Lady T's lose heartbreaker

Lady T’s lose heartbreaker
By STU MERRY
Oh, so close.
The Garrison Troopers girls’ varsity basketball team came so close to picking up their fourth win of the season Tuesday night. But a charity shot with just over three seconds remaining in the game – the front end of a one and one by Center-Stanton’s Bailey Henke -- spelled another loss for the Lady T’s. The score was 40-39.
But the loss wasn’t due to the lack of trying. The Troopers led at intermission by six, and even carried a precarious lead through until midway into the final quarter when Center-Stanton took the lead. The game seesawed back and forth right down to the wire with each team having opportunities to win. But an errant in-bounds pass that fell into the arms of Henke with about six seconds left forced the Troopers to foul. And at the line Henke drove a nail through the heart of the Trooper faithful.
The loss was the second in as many days as the season winds to a climactic end. Monday, the Troopers traveled to Flasher, only to fall 53-31.
Reflecting on Monday’s game, Coach Sandra Essler said a physical Bulldog team took its toll on the Ladies as the game wore on.
“It really took away our post game,” Essler said, “(We) struggled to score from the perimeter.”
