Majestic views offered on self-guided hike

By Daniel Arens

This coming week, people from near and far can take advantage of a special opportunity to get their exercise while seeing the majestic living symbol of the nation.
From Friday, Jan. 29 until Sunday, Feb. 7, the Garrison Dam Fish Hatchery is hosting “Hike Where the Eagles Fly,” a special two mile hike of the River Loop Trail at the hatchery, which is located just below the Garrison Dam west of Riverdale.
“So people can come in, and we have signs up all over,” Glee Mayer said. “They can follow the trail, and we’ll have a scavenger hunt for the kids as well.”
Mayer is the vice president of the Central Flyway Chapter of the North Country Trail Association. She said the goal of the hike is to showcase the amazing hiking opportunities people can enjoy in this part of the state.
The scavenger hunt allows kids 12 and under to pick up a sheet while walking the trail. They can answer the various questions on the sheet, using information provided by the signs along the way. There will be small prizes available for kids who complete the hunt.
