Mavericks region runner-up

The Makoti Mavericks are runner-up champs of the Class A West Legion Baseball Tourney that was in Makoti this past week.
What’s nice about the new three class format (AA, A and B) in Legion baseball is that runner-up is good enough to advance to state. In fact, the top four teams from the west advance to the state tournament and will face their counterparts from the east.
The tournament is in Wahpeton and began Wednesday. Representing the west are No. 1 Beulah, No. 2 Makoti, No. 3 Watford City and No. 4 Velva. Representing the east is Valley City, Grafton, Casselton and Wahpeton.
The Beulah Cyclones defeated the Mavericks 13-3 in five innings (via the 10-run mercy rule) on the last day for the title in the A West Regional.
