Max Cossack boys get district win

By MINDY IGLEHART

The Max Cossack boys basketball team picked up a big District 10 win last Tuesday when they defeated the Wilton-Wing Miners 39-36. The game was in Wilton.

The Miners led most of the first half against the Cossacks, but Max came out in the third taking the lead by one, holding the Miners to a 5-point quarter.

The defense took control for both teams in the fourth and the Cossacks held on for the 3-point win over the Miners. Nick Thompson led the team with 18.

The Cossacks were coming off two tough losses that they suffered during the McLean County Shootout. The Cossacks struggled against Glen Ullin Jan. 8, losing 26-55. The first half was neck-and-neck, but Glen Ullin came out strong after the half, outscoring the Cossacks 17-5 in the third and 22-6 in the fourth. "We have struggled taking care of the ball and finishing around the rim." said Coach Jade Larson. "But we are positive we will get where we need to be."
