Miners dig up win vs. Troop

By STU MERRY

It was another heartbreaking loss for the Garrison-Max Troopers volleyball team this past Thursday night.
The match, in Garrison, saw the Wilton-Wing Miners pull out a 3-0 win in District 10 play.
The Miners took the opener 25-20. In the second game the Troopers appeared to have won the game 25-19, but an “in the net” call against the Troopers kept the game alive. The ensuing discussion drained the momentum out of the Troopers and gave Wilton-Wing new life. The Miners capitalized and went on to win 27-25.
Coach Sarah Lee said learning to deal with adversity is part of the game.
“It’s part of the development of a young team, learning to continue fighting even when the ‘chips are down’ so to speak,” she said. “We’re going to face that wherever we go. And in the game of volleyball, the ups and downs of the rally score, we have to continue to mentally prepare ourselves for adversity and physically train our bodies for the repetition of a pass, set, spike coupled with an intensity for playing aggressively in the big points.”
