NASP archery team draws crowd at home tournament
The Garrison NASP team hosted its fifth annual archery tournament on Friday and Saturday.
There were nine teams competing throughout the tournament. The organizers ran 11 flights with about 40 archers in each flight.
Teams from Garrison, Killdeer, Max, McClusky-Goodrich, Wilton, Mount Pleasant, Richardton-Taylor, Washburn, Dunseith Indian Day School were included.
The upper bleachers were full of spectators.
“The tournament went very smooth. We did get behind in the afternoon about 15 minutes per flight, but nothing serious,” NASP head coach Donald Franklin said. “Our ‘mom group’ took care of our bake sale, registration table and admissions.”
GHS archers Austin Thelen and Brooklyn Smith both achieved personal bests in the 3-D division.
GHS freshman Thelen placed first in the high school boy’s division.
His sister, senior Aspyn Thelen, placed second in the high school girl’s division.
