Passing of the torch

GARRISON —  Warren Flath cut an impressive figure as he towered over a majority of the crowd at last Friday evening’s basketball game.
At first glance, one would assume that in his day, he was a basketball player. And they would be right.
Standing at six foot eight (four inches taller than he was following a growth spurt as a freshman), Flath was a 1969 graduate of Garrison High School and a member of the Garrison Troopers basketball team.
He also held the school’s record – 1,637 points – for the most points scored in a high school basketball career for boys basketball. That is, until the second quarter of that Friday’s game, when senior Connor Kerzmann surpassed that record with some change.
